James Herr is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal. Mr. Herr has provided valuation and financial consulting services for more than 20 years. During that time he has performed hundreds of valuation engagements, ranging from business, asset and financial instrument/derivative valuations under US GAAP, IFRS, US & International Tax Regulations; he also regularly consults on transactions and strategic planning, financial analyses in a litigation setting, and prepares and reviews financial models used for a variety of purposes.

He has performed valuations in the technology, telecommunications and healthcare sectors for more than 16 years. In the technology sector he has valued software (navigation, speech recognition, etc.), search engines, Internet companies, streaming services, and web service companies. In the telecommunications sector he has valued >$3 billion value telecom businesses as well as tower cell networks, FTTX networks, and broadband licenses. In the healthcare sector he has valued biotech and pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, primary care networks, medical equipment manufacturers, and insurance companies.

Prior to joining Alvarez and Marsal Valuation Services, Mr. Herr was a Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Prior to that, James was a Corporate Finance Director in KPMG’s Moscow office. He also served as a Vice President at BDO in Los Angeles. James holds a BS in Economics and Russian from BYU, an MA in Economics from the UC-Berkeley, and an MBA with emphasis in accounting from Cal State East Bay. He is a Chartered Financial Analysis charter holder and an Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers.
